Omega was designed and built by David Jones of Triabunna Tasmania and launched in 1982 Originally designed as a work boat she is 35 foot long has a 12 foot beam and 5 foot draft Constructed from 1.5 Inch Celery Top hull and deck over hardwood keel ribs and stringers. She is very heavily built weighing 14 tonnes.
The current owner purchased her in 1998 and delivered her from Hobart directly to Lord Howe Island where he used her in a work configuration for the next 6 years between Lord Howe coastal activities and passages to Middleton and Elizabeth Reefs.
In 2004 she was delivered to Port Macquarie and Shipwright Ray Barth completely refitted her over the next 4 years to a cruising vessel at a cost of some $200K. She was stripped back to bare hull and deck wheelhouse and wet well were removed. She was then completely refitted using quality timbers such as Huon Kauri and Merbau.
Refitting achieved a larger aft wheelhouse and trunk cabin in the style typical of a motor cruiser below the newly created area allowed for the creation of a large V berth forward with infill a single settee berth in the main saloon. The newly created Galley area was fitted out with a 2 hob Metho stove with oven and a 24 V eutectic icebox and a stainless steel sink. Surrounded by plenty of cupboards and storage holds. There is a fully enclosed head with electric Jabsco toilet and hand basin. She holds 120 L of fresh water.
She was re-engined in 2007 and fitted with a 6LXB Gardner 127 Hp diesel engine which was rebuilt in the UK and purchased from JL Diesel in Tweed Heads and is coupled to a Dong Industrial DMT 100A gearbox she currently has 1138 hours on the clock. New shaft and propeller were also fitted at this time. Hydraulic gearbox and throttle controls are fitted. 1500 L of Diesel in 3 Alloy tanks gives her a comfortable 1200 NM cruising range at 8 Kts and 1300 NM at 6 Kts.
Electronics are simple but sufficient TMQ Autopilot coupled to Simrad Chart plotter GPS Sounder and Icom VHF for communication. There is plenty of power provided by 2 banks of batteries coupled to solar panels. Anchoring is a breeze with the Muir electric winch and she has a 6 man RFD life raft life jackets Epirb and flares.
Whilst she was built to survey originally she is currently not in survey.
Moored here at Rowell Marine, Newport in NSW she is available for inspection at any time. Please call us to arrange your inspection today 02 9997 1674
